Facebook tips for small business owners Mobile Alabama

Everyday I am often asked what are some easy ways small business owners can market their business in a cost effective way. The answer for me is simple, Facebook!

Social Media is the most powerful and effective way to spread your message, idea, or promote your business. There are several different channels to use when promoting your business or company via social media. Some of the more popular ones include Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Pintrest.  Each of the mentioned platforms are powerful mediums and when used correctly they can leverage your published content in a way that connects you with your fans, followers and connections. However, use them incorrectly, and well, you are just wasting time. In this post I will identify some "best practices" that a small business owner can implement right away to start connecting with your audience.

In this post we will focus on Facebook.

Facebook

Facebook is one of the largest and most active social platforms to date. With more that 1.44 billion active monthly users Facebook is simply to large to ignore. Here are some interesting data:

  • 4.5 billion likes generated daily as of May 2013 which is a 67 percent increase from August 2012 (Source: Facebook)
  • 936 million people log onto Facebook daily (DAU) for March 2015, which represents a 17% increase year over year (Source: Facebook as 4/22/15)
  • There are 1.25 billion mobile active users (MAU) (Source: Facebook as of 4/22/15)
  • Five new profiles are created every second. (Source: ALLFacebook 2012)
  • Photo uploads total 300 million per day. (Source: Gizmodo)
  • Every 60 seconds on Facebook: 510 comments are posted, 293,000 statuses are updated, and 136,000 photos are uploaded. (Source: The Social Skinny)
  • 16 Million local business pages have been created as of May 2013 which is a 100 percent increase from 8 million in June 2012. (Source: Facebook)
These insights should qualify FB as a worth wild investment of time for any business owner. It has also be released that the average FB user opens the app on a mobile device an average of 17 times per day. In my opinion, that is 17 chances to market your business or product to users that need to be marketed to!

Facebook also offers a unique insights platform that others do not. Once you have created your Facebook page, this medium enables the page owner to navigate to an insights dashboard within Facebook. Here the owner can view engagement, likes, comments, and how many "fans" have viewed their content.

In my opinion when managing a Facebook page for a business it is important to provide valuable and relevant content to the fans that follow your page. This will always keep them coming back for more. Share your status updates, popular things that are going on around the community, and upcoming events. Also, provide content that is geared towards your niche. For example, if you were a mechanic shop you could publish a video on why it is important to use a thicker motor oil in the winter. This is something that most people to do not know. Once you have proven value and offer something to the reader you will keep them coming back for more.

Video is another major player in the world of FB. Video is quickly setting the pace in the online marketing world. Second to only YouTube, Facebook sees more video content upload each day than anywhere else on the web. Creating unique and original video content is a great way to market you business.

If you are struggling with navigating the social jungle don't fret. You have options. You can hire a social media management or advertising company to handle these tasks for you. These companies hire professionals that are trained in the in's and out's of best practices and can leverage their skills and expertise in social media to set you apart from your competition.
